BP Donates $1M to Aid Victims of Hurricane Isaac
Release date: 30 August 2012
BP America, Inc. announced today it will donate $1 million to support disaster relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi following Hurricane Isaac.
The donation will be made to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army and divided equally between the two hardest-hit states.
“This assistance cannot fix all that has been broken by this natural disaster, but we hope it can help some of those in need today and contribute to a sustained recovery effort in the months ahead,” said Crystal E. Ashby, Executive Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for BP America.
The storm forced BP to evacuate workers from offshore platforms and drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as from onshore facilities in south Louisiana and Mississippi, where hundreds of BP employees live.
Separate from this donation, BP is also providing assistance to our employees and their families in the region.

Gallery Artists : Earl Hamilton
Earl Hamilton, now in his forties, spent most of his childhood living in a small cabin in the Rodgers Mountain area outside the town of Scio (Oregon) in the Willamette valley, with his parents Satsuko and George Hamilton, both successful artists. The family lived self-sufficiently on their secluded homestead, painting together in their cabin's living room. Thus, from an early age, Earl was influenced to enter the art world. Living a frugal lifestyle, hauling water, milking goats, collecting eggs from their chickens and minus TV and radio, he was encouraged to read and talk a lot about art. Earl learned self-sufficiency and a desire to follow his own artistic instincts. He now lives in Lebanon, another small Oregon town, where he works on his paintings every day and usually most of the night.
Earl studied art in high school where he won a Scholastic Gold Key award for the State of Oregon and a National Gold Medal Scholastic Award for a competition in New York City. He won an art scholarship while studying art at Oregon State University. In 1980, Earl won The Grumbacker Award for the Northwest Watercolor Society, and 1981 the First Place Sweepstake Award for the Watercolor Society of Oregon.
Earl's paintings are filled with a kind of whimsical lightness reflected in many images such as castles, clowns, children, animals and lovers. He layers acrylics and uses collage materials in many of his abstract works. Earl's paintings whether abstract or whimsical objects, could be called meditative, mystical, contemplative, energetic, bold and confident in brushstroke. "I knew that I would always be an artist. Art has become a way of life for me, of perceiving and being. You take art with you whether you paint or not. It's in your eyes and in your hands."

Earl Andrew Hamilton (July 19, 1891 – November 17, 1968) was a MLB left-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Browns (1911–1916, later in 1916-1917), Detroit Tigers (1916), Pittsburgh Pirates (1918–1923), and the Philadelphia Phillies (1924). He pitched a no-hitter against Detroit on August 30, 1912. The Tigers did get a run on a Ty Cobb walk and an error, making the final score 5-1 Browns. Hamilton also batted left-handed and ended his career with an average pitcher's batting average of .153 in 733 at bats.
Career overview
Born in Gibson City, Illinois, Hamilton played his first major league game on April 14, 1911. Through the early to mid-teens, Hamilton was considered a quality pitcher and was one of the better pitchers on some terrible Browns teams. In 1914, Hamilton had a very quality season, going 17-18 with a 2.50 ERA in 302 and 1/3 innings pitched.
After being purchased by Detroit in 1916, he was waived back to the Browns less than a month later. Then, in 1918, he finally left St. Louis for good after an 0-9 season, being purchased by Pittsburgh before the season began. That season, in 6 starts, he had one of the most amazing seasons ever recorded. Hamilton was 6-0 with a 0.83 ERA in 54 innings that year. He finished with 1 shutout in his 6 complete games. Hamilton had only given up 7 runs (5 earned) in 6 games. Oddly, he picked that season to enlist in the Navy. Hamilton returned for more fair seasons with the Pirates. Along with Wilbur Cooper, Whitey Glazner, and Babe Adams, he helped make up a good rotation for Pittsburgh, culminating with a second place finish in 1921 (behind only the New York Giants, 4 games). However, they never made the World Series with Hamilton.
Before he retired in 1924, Hamilton was selected off waivers by the Phillies, and he went 0-1 with them, with a 10.50 ERA. Hamilton made sparse appearances on leaderboards throughout his career, such as a 9th place finish in the ERA leaderboard (3.36, 1921) and a 7th place finish in wins in 1914, when he had 17. He also made the top 10 in losses three times (1914, 15, 21), and ended up finishing only two years of his career with a winning record; his 6-0 season of 1918 and 1922 (11-7).
In 14 years, he was 116-147 with a solid 3.16 ERA in 410 games (261 starts). He pitched 140 complete games, 16 of them shutouts. Hamilton recorded 790 career strike outs and allowed 1075 runs (822 earned) in 2342 and 2/3 innings pitched.
He died in Anaheim, California at the age of 77.
[edit]Trivia
Hamilton pitched 16 shutout innings on July 16, 1920 with the Pirates, before losing 7-0 against the New York Giants, clearly having run out of gas in the 17th. Rube Benton was the Giants' pitcher, also going 16 shutout innings.

Jill Hamilton:MARENGO, the Myth of Napoleon's Horse
The Hoof at the Palace
A horse gives a man wings.
ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Every day when the Captain returns from the Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace he sits down to lunch at a magnificent table set with gleaming regimental silver in the Officers’ Mess. In front of him, in pride of place, is a horse’s hoof.
For over 150 years at St James’s Palace this delicate but complete hoof, covered by a highly polished silver lid, has been moved between the sideboard and its central position above the knives and forks. Twenty-four words inscribed on the hinged lid link it with the man who was once Britain’s most bitter enemy: Hoof of Marengo, Barb charger of Napoleon, ridden by him at Marengo, Austerlitz, Jena, Wagram, in the campaign of Russia and lastly at Waterloo Engraved on the underside of the lid is the story of how the hoof came into the Guards’
hands: Presented 8th April 1840 by J. W. Angerstein Captain Grenadier Guards and Lieutenant-Colonel to his brother officers of the Household Brigade
Today, Marengo’s other two hooves are on public display with his preserved skeleton, a mile-and-a-half away, in the Waterloo Gallery at the National Army Museum in Chelsea.
When Marengo died at the advanced age of thirty-eight in 1832 at Brandon in Suffolk, his bones were articulated by Surgeon Wilmott of the London Hospital. The skin was put aside for a taxidermist, but was lost or mislaid, as was his fourth hoof.

Earle Hyman (born October 11, 1926) is an American stage, television, and film actor. Hyman is known for his recurring role on The Cosby Show as Cliff's father, Russell Huxtable.
Career
A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Hyman's parents, Zachariah Hyman and Maria Lilly Plummer, moved their family to Brooklyn, New York, where Hyman primarily grew up. Earle Hyman became interested in acting after seeing a production of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts. “The first play I ever saw was a present from my parents on my 13th birthday — Nazimova in ‘Ghosts’ at Brighton Beach on the subway circuit — and I just freaked out.”[1][2]
He made his Broadway stage debut as a teenager in 1943 in Run, Little Chillun, and later joined the American Negro Theater. The following year, Hyman began a two year run playing the role of Rudolf on Broadway in Anna Lucasta, starring Hilda Simms in the title role.[3] He was a member of the American Shakespeare Theatre beginning with its first season in 1955, and played the role of Othello in the 1957 season.
In 1959 he appeared in the West End in the first London production of A Raisin In the Sun alongside Kim Hamilton. The show ran at the Adelphi Theatre and was directed again by Lloyd Richards.
Throughout his career, Hyman has appeared in productions in both the United States and Norway (he is fluent in Norwegian) where he also owns a home on Norway's west coast and an apartment in Oslo. In 1965, won a Theatre World Award and in 1988, he was awarded the St Olav's medal for his work in Norwegian theater.
In addition to his stage work, Hyman has appeared in various television and film roles including adaptions of Macbeth (1968), Julius Caesar (1979), and Coriolanus (1979), and voiced Panthro on the animated television series ThunderCats (1985-1990). One of his most well known roles, that of Russell Huxtable in The Cosby Show, earned him an Emmy Award nomination in 1986 where he played the father of lead character Cliff Huxtable, played by actor Bill Cosby despite only being 11 years senior to Cosby. He is the third cousin of singer Phyllis Hyman.

Amazon Gold Travel Ventures: An Amazon Experience: Treetop Hotels
Just got back from a vacation trip to the Amazon and was immensely satisfied during my stay at the Amazon Towers. This might very well be the biggest eco-friendly resort hotel in Amazon that is built atop trees northwest of Manaus, Brazil overlooking the Amazon River.
A posh hotel in Rio Negro has 268 treetop rooms, tree houses and suites that are situated up to 20 meters above the ground. Their simple accommodations are enjoined together through an 8-km wooden catwalk where you can see the jungle from a 30-feet high perspective. Actually, I’m thinking this may be the biggest tree top hotel ever.
I’m sure others will also enjoy and get refreshed in the Amazon rainforest area where hotel rooms are on treetops and tree houses are available to live close by the wildlife.
Their standard rooms have really nice views of the Amazon River complete with all the native animals and plants. Amenities include private bathroom, a balcony, AC, mini-bar and double beds. They also have three-roomed ones to accommodate families.
Well, the suites (where I stayed, btw) are very spacious and has a rustic but tidy feel to them. They have tropical decorations that complement the awesome view from your private balcony nicely. Suites have an added room feature of dining table.
Tree Houses are the ultimate accommodation there where you will have the opportunity to actually try living 35 feet above ground. From there, you can easily see the flowing river and the rich wildlife below. What’s more, they have the latest in eco-friendly living in place. I was impressed by the design and construction of their tree houses — they have been carved out of massive trees!

A study has found that consumers were routinely targeted with spam email campaigns aimed at impersonating popular retail site Amazon, during the busy Christmas period, according to IT Portal.
A study has found that consumers were routinely targeted with spam email campaigns aimed at impersonating popular retail site Amazon, during the busy Christmas period, according to IT Portal.
In particular, there was one campaign which alleged to be from Amazon and told the targeted users that they had been charged for a smartphone handset, which of course, was not the case.
The message in question purported to allow users to track a parcel they had ordered, but the links included were actually related to a phishing site, disguised to look like the genuine article. Those who clicked them could end up with spyware on their computer which would then go about stealing private data from the infected machine and leaving the user in a potentially vulnerable position.
This particular scam is effective because users who had not bought the item in question would be worried that they had been charged a significant amount and so would be more likely to click the embedded links in the email.
This kind of spam message is becoming increasingly common as cybercriminals look to impersonate sites usually associated with offering safe shopping online, thus increasing the chances that the user will be fooled.
When millions of people would be receiving buckets of email confirmations and tracking messages during the run up to the festive period last year, such an innocuous message could easily cause you to drop your guard.
Anyone who opens an email like this and clicks the included links can protect their PC by installing antivirus software and a spyware checker. You need to keep these up to date if you want to secure your private details and enjoy safe shopping online, without being constantly concerned about the validity of the emails you receive and the sites you visit.

Amazon Gold Travel Ventures | Real world Facebook; research facility in jungle
We may all have heard of the Facebook but I’m willing to bet not that much of us knows about this other Facebook in the Amazon that will probably alert more tourists where to head to next.
No, it’s not anything close to a networking site but it’s very much social just like its namesake.
A nightclub in the remote Amazon region was named Facebook by its 30-year old owner, Humbert Camacho. It’s actually pronounced as ‘Facey-Bookey’ in Brazilian Portuguese.
Camacho became very successful in his first venture into the club business in Bolivia. His club, Discoteca Insomnio, reportedly welcomes 1,200 partygoers each weekend. Originally, Camacho was planning to practice law but after he opened his first business and tasted success, he doesn’t look like he’s going to leave too soon — he’s planning to build the Facebook nightclub in Epitaciolândia, Brazil.
“So what we wanted to do was to build a nightclub with this concept, where people could come and share things with their friends, spend a cool night, sharing pictures, experiences and have fun”, he said.
Initially, they just want to have a very catchy name, something that people will surely talk about. Aside from that, the reason he chose the name is because of its concept of basically just sharing things, stories, friendships with other people.
On a more scientific note, there are plans to establish a science center in the very heart of the Amazon rainforest, disregarding the alert this could bring to untold numbers of local tribes.
This will reportedly serve as a scientific hub for scientists from universities and from the Royal Botanic Gardens. Besides, they are also counting on this to become a tourist spot.
Another advantage of this for the locals is the job opportunities this project can provide in its two years of construction in an isolated province in Brazil. If the proposal for this USD 10 million-project is realized, this will be the very first research hub located inside the jungle.
According to reports, the site’s designer will be Marks Barfield Architects, the same company credited for the famous London Eye.

Amazon’s Gold Travel Ventures : An Amazon jungle jaunt
For anyone looking to experience the Amazon rainforest without waking up in the middle of the night covered in leeches, southern Colombia‘s Amacayacu National Park offers the perfect mix of adventure and comfort.
Any jaunt to this southern Colombian jungle park will start in Leticia, the lazily paced capital of the Amazonas department. The streets are lined with palm trees, shops and cafes, where you can shop for pure cocoa chocolates and handicrafts, or while a way an afternoon sipping caipirinhas.
The park is 65 kms to the south of the city, and can be reached by a manic one-and-a-half hour speed-boat ride down the Amacayacu River. Situated in a large chunk of virgin rainforest, Amacayacu is brimming with wildlife and features plants that could kill you and others to bring you back.
A boardwalk makes strolling through the ancient forest easy, allowing you to concentrate on the squirrel monkeys and macaws above, while avoiding the more sinister creatures that crawl and slither.
Comfortable rooms with balconies overlooking the jungle can be booked through Aviatur. Houseboats complete with crew, accommodating up to eight people, can also be organized.
Twenty minutes up the river from Amacayacu sits the pristine community of Puerto Narino. In this tiny jungle settlement the Nututama Foundation works with local indigenous people to protect endangered species including turtles and the pink river dolphin. Clean but modest accommodation is available for those seeking a truly unique experience.
Avianca runs daily flights between Bogota and Leticia, and at under two hours, the jungle is closer than you think.

Amazon Gold Ventures: Cash for Gold-Cash for Gold Scams
Cash for gold is a legitimate opportunity. On the other hand, cash for gold scams take advantage of naive sellers. In fact, the person who wants to become a gold buyer faces the same obstacle. As a former professional, Metal Man knows all about it. The good news: "Secrets of a Successful Gold Buyer" can help.
This comprehensive cash for gold guide explains the cash for gold business. It will detail how you can buy and sell gold and silver jewelry and more--for profit--on your own. It will thoroughly equip you for success and save you from costly mistakes. I won't argue that all of the alternatives are cash for gold scams. Instead, let's match them against this book.
1. "PARTNERS"
Several companies promote "partner" systems. They promise to provide details about buying and selling gold; you would resell your items to them. Despite the clever spin, this arrangement would make you an agent--not a "partner".
Will they teach you how to profit in cash for gold on your own? Of course not; that would senselessly create competition. Clearly, you would be tied to the company. Moreover, those companies pay less for scrap gold and silver--less than the companies you really need to know about. They actively recruits agents, provide limited information, and then pay substandard rates since their agents don't know it ought to be more.
